Stained and Decorative Glass traces the history of glass in its architectural environment from the earlist surviving examples in the 11th century cathedral in Augsburg to the work of modern designers and architects producing new and exciting effects of light, color and form. The author explores the first flowering of stained glass in medieval times and the technical virtuosity of the craftsmen who created the jewel-like, faceted colors of the great windows that still illuminate the dark interiors of European cathedrals and churches. Following the destruction of the Reformation, stained glass reemerged with the 19th century Gothic Revival in Europe and the United States. It found new form and expression under William Morris and the Arts and Crafts Movement, and Louis C.Tiffany and other Art Nouveau designers.
