Designer, engraver, goldsmith and archivist, the master of 17th century French goldwork. Meissonnier is considered one of the greatest creators in the rococo style and one of those most responsible for its spread throughout Europe. His work is documented by engravings and drawings, published first in 1734, and it is from the study of this immense corpus of prints that Peter Fuhring began his work, to then extend research to archive material an the artist and his relations with the court of Louis XV. Finally reconstructing the complete catalogue of his work.

Many masterpieces have been lost and it is perhaps for this reason that Meissonnier has not been studied extensively, until the publication of this magnificent book that for the first time gives a portrait of the artist in all his complexity and his goldwork in all its beauty.
